Glamp Michigan
Glamp Michigan
Glamp Michigan is small on purpose: four places to stay in the pines near Lake Michigan, all open year-round, and each with its own sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, and fire pit.
The property sits in Benzonia, in the part of the state Michiganders simply call up north. There are two geodesic domes, Aurora and Löyly, and two mirrored houses, Lumi and Sol.
What the stay is actually like
The domes are insulated and well heated, with big windows that keep the trees in view from bed. Löyly takes its name from the Finnish word for the steam that rises when water hits hot sauna stones.
The mirror houses reflect the pines, sky, and snow on their outside walls. Inside they're modern and uncluttered, with radiant floor heat you'll appreciate after walking in from the snow. The glass gives you privacy during the day; after dark, with the lights on, use the full blinds. The four units are spaced apart, so each one feels private.
Your sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, and fire pit are just for you. Try the sauna first thing while the forest is still pale blue, and save the hot tub and the fire for after dark.
Your days here
Crystal Mountain is nearby for downhill skiing. Frankfort, Beulah, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes area are close enough for a drive to see the lakeshore in winter. Or stay put: coffee as the forest brightens, a long breakfast, the sauna, a short walk in the trees, then the fire.
Getting there and when to go
Meals are self-catered and there's no restaurant on site. The domes have full kitchens, the mirror houses have smaller cooking setups, and every unit has an outdoor griddle, so plan your groceries before you arrive.
There's no hotel-style lobby, so read the arrival information before you leave home. Starlink internet is available. Northern Michigan roads can change quickly in winter, and all-wheel or four-wheel drive is strongly recommended.
