StarStruck is three miles beyond the pavement on Terlingua Ranch, one of the vast open properties that make up this part of Texas. The setup is simple: a handful of domes, an outdoor kitchen, a fire pit, and the enormous desert quiet.
What the stay is actually like
Each dome is a glass-and-metal geodesic sphere sitting on a wooden deck, oriented for maximum view. Inside: a real bed, air conditioning, heat, a mini fridge, and enough space for two people to feel unhurried. The glass walls put the desert directly in front of you, and the dome shape opens the ceiling to the sky.
Life happens outside. A shared outdoor kitchen with a propane grill, a fire pit that becomes the center of the property after sunset, comfortable lounge chairs, and a telescope for guests to use. StarStruck also runs a guided audio stargazing experience so you actually know what you're looking at.
The property is popular for anniversaries, birthdays, and quiet trips because the setup rewards presence. There's no wifi to speak of, no ambient noise, no light pollution. Getting there and when to go
StarStruck is on Terlingua Ranch, about 45 minutes from the town of Terlingua and 30 minutes from the west entrance of Big Bend National Park. Nearest airport is Midland (MAF), roughly three and a half hours by car; El Paso (ELP) is about four hours. Both work but you'll want a rental with a bit of clearance for the ranch road.
The best time is October through April: mild days, cool nights, and clear skies. Late spring brings wildflowers and desert blooms. Summer is doable but hot; nights are still comfortable. Winter is quiet and dramatic, and the stars are at their most spectacular in the crisp air of December and January.
